Door Components Explained

Door Component Names

An interior door is made up of many parts, all of these parts can be customised to create the ideal door for various functions, finish and price point.

At it's most basic the door will be made up of the door skins, core and frame. The door frame components are refered to as Rails, Stiles and lockblock.

It's important to select the right combination to get the perfect door for your needs and expectations.

Door Skin Options

Door skin options have an effect on paint finish, impact resistance and can limit the groove shape options available for a door.

Skin thickness is critical for paint finish. Our entry level 3mm skins create a durable and cost effective door. However due to the low skin thickness, they can allow some of the underlying components to show in the face of the door when viewed in critical light paths and with some paint finishes.

Achieving our customers desired paint finish and price point is why we offer a range of skin options at 3, 4, 4.75, 6 and 9mm thick.

Door Core Options

The door core plays an important role in impact resistance, rigidity, thermal insulation and acoustic insulation.

We have door cores to meet various performance requirements.

RibCore

RibCore Polystyrene for class leading hollow core durability & thermal resistance with entry level cost effectiveness.

EPS Solid Core

Solid EPS Polystyrene for excellent thermal performance and impact resistance while maintaining light weight.

Steel Reinforced

Steel reinforced cores for excellent rigidity in cavity and surface sliding applications.

MR Particle Board

MR Particle Board for acoustic insulation and ultimate impact resistance.

Door Frame Options

The door frame is made up of two rails (top & Bottom), two stiles (left & right) and the lock block to support the mounting of the door handle and other hardware such as locks.

The size of our standard frame components differ depending on the height, width and type of installation. We also stock a Universal door with oversized rails which are designed to be cut to size onsite for speed and convenience.

The size and position of frame components can be customised to support any hardware & installation requirements.
